COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
       
In state Scholarships for Service AmeriCorps Program (service taking place in Rhode Island only)
-Consists of 300 hours of service which can include volunteering, off-campus work study and/or an unpaid internship
-Begins June 1st (although you can begin your service earlier) and ends September 4th, 2009.
-Every two weeks you will receive a living stipend adding up to $1710. And when you finish your 300 hours you will receive a $1000 Education Award that can be used to pay back student fees/loans or pay off future ones! (That comes to about $9.00 an hour - in case you were wondering)

City Year Volunteer Opportunity
The nonprofit organization City Year, is looking for team leaders to lead their youth in community service, activities and discussions for three Saturday's a month from January through May and for an overnight retreat in mid-December. This opportunity is with their Young Heroes Program which is a leadership development and service learning program for middle school youth in Providence and Kent County. City Year was founded upon the belief that young people can change the world. City Year is a nonprofit organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time service. As tutors, mentors, and role models, these idealistic leaders make a difference in the lives of children, and transform schools and neighborhoods across the US and in South Africa. City Year is celebrating their 15th year of service to the state of Rhode Island. Tavares Youth Recreation Center on Chad Brown St., Providence - Contact Nicole Reilly at ndufresne@bgcprov.org
Volunteers are needed on a weekly basis Monday-Friday from 3-6pm. Volunteers would need to commit to one day a week for three hours for at least the semester, if not the entire school year. Volunteers would facilitate and assist with activities for youth in the Chad Brown area.
