This message describes how PC is implementing its Emergency Notification System and contains important instructions about reviewing and changing the phone number where you will receive emergency alerts. Please read this entire message.

The Providence College Office of Safety and Security oversees the operation of the College's Emergency Notification System. One of the emergency notification methods adopted by the College is Connect-ED, which is designed to produce mass notification of a campus emergency via home or cell-phones, and text messaging and e-mail communications. The system delivers messages that will direct the campus community regarding safety measures during a critical incident on the campus or in the surrounding community.

Contact information for all PC students, faculty, and staff has been transferred to the Connect-ED system from Banner data on file. We want to provide you with the opportunity to review this information and, if necessary, change the contact phone number where you want us to send emergency notification messages.

For most students, staff and faculty, a cell-phone number is likely the best choice for receiving messages. (Please do not use your campus phone extension as the primary contact number because emergency messages to campus phones will be sent through a different system.) Dominican Friars and Sisters who live on campus have had their resident phone extensions placed in the database; this contact number also may be changed to a cell phone number.

To review or change the data entered from current Banner records, or to opt-out of the Emergency Notification System (this option for faculty and staff only), please follow the instructions posted on the PC Emergency Notification System Web page, which is located in the Student Life/Safety and Security section of the PC Web site under Safety and Emergency Response : http://www.providence.edu/Student+Life/Safety+and+Security/Emergency/Connect+Ed.htm

Complete instructions about how to access your Connect-Ed information are posted on this "PC Emergency Notification System" page. You can access the Connect-Ed system directly through the link on this page and log in using your Banner ID and password. If you need assistance, please call the Emergency Management Office at ext. 1553. Because we plan to test this system in the near future, we ask that you make any changes to the database no later than Thursday, October 16, 2008.

Messages sent from the Connect-ED system will originate from the following phone number: 401-865-1111. If you have a cell phone, we advise you to program this number into your phone as "PC ALERT," or some similar notation, so that you will be able to identify the incoming message as an emergency communication that should be listened to or read immediately. If a critical incident happens when you are on campus, you also will receive notification from other sources (i.e. campus phone system, e-mail, Red Light audible alert, etc.)

For more information about the College's safety and emergency response plans, including the various other communication methods that comprise the College's Emergency Notification System, please visit http://www.providence.edu/Student+Life/Safety+and+Security/Emergency/

Please contact Koren Kanadanian, Director of Emergency Management (ext. 1553), with any questions. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
